The recent vote in the US House of Representatives, while a positive sign, is far from the protection the Pledge of Allegiance needs. The Senate has not moved on a matching bill, and this has left the courts open to challenge the pledge.

Michael Newdow, the atheist leading the charge against The Pledge, is cheering the vote, heralding the number of dissenting votes as an indication to the courts that a large number support his efforts. We must continue to speak out and stand up for what we ourselves beleive, lest our efforts be for naught.

Please mail, email, or call your senators and let them know you support The Pledge as it stands and want it protected. This is your Pledge - you must protect it.

Due to recent controversy in California in the Newdow v. State of California, the words “Under God” were stricken from being said in public schools.

In 1954, the Knights of Columbus fought to get the words “Under God” added to the Pledge.

51 years later, we are fighting to keep them in. On November 5, 2005 at 12:00 PM at the Knights of Columbus, Tinto Council #47, we will be having a Pledge of Allegiance Rally to support the fact that the words “Under God” be kept in the Pledge. We are asking for your support. We are inviting the public as well as public officials, Veterans, Churches and local departments to attend this special event to get our message across…to keep the words “Under God” in the Pledge. Please tell your family and friends about this event and come and show your support.

For more information please contact Grand Knight Christopher Donnells at 203-876-8955.

It is with great sadness that I must inform you that former Mayor Frederick L. Lisman passed away Friday morning at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven.
